A Year of Ceremonial Magic: Month Five

I am very late in updating my monthly progress through Donald Michael Kraig’s Modern Magic: Twelve Lessons in the High Magical Arts, mostly due to school commitments. Now that I’ve graduated, I will be catching up on my blog posts about my progress. All insights and experiences are taken directly from my notes and ritual diary entries, and all rituals described have been faithfully performed daily without fail.

I finally finished reading chapter four and started chapter five in the month of May. Chapter Four introduces the element of Air, and the Air Dagger. I also have my Air Dagger that I made many years ago. I still have yet to choose a personal motto to replace the old one. Once I can figure that out, I need to translate it into Latin and then paint it on my existing tools.

My daily ritual practice remained the same throughout May: the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, the Middle Pillar Ritual, the Circulation of the Body of Light, and the Advance Tarot Contemplation Ritual. I still struggle with visualizations during the Middle Pillar Ritual and continue to try different things during the performance to aid in better visualizations. So far, nothing has really worked. Despite the lack of proper visualizations, I started to feel the intense light-headedness and dizziness during both the Middle Pillar Ritual and the Circulation of the Body of Light. But then, later in the month, the feeling of dizziness during the Circulation of the Body of Light Ritual seemed to be dissipating.

A few times over the month, the rituals became a little perfunctory and utilitarian. I knew that adding the Banishing Ritual of the Hexagram would help spice things up again, but it didn’t feel right to add a completely new ritual when I was still struggling with the Middle Pillar Ritual. I tried playing music during the ritual, performing rituals in complete darkness, and even in the nude. For a short time, an intense feeling of energy in my hands – not unlike Reiki – was happening during the Circulation of the Body of Light Ritual. By the end of the month however, this too diminished and then stopped.
