Beachbody Ultimate Reset: Phase 1 – Reclaim

The program is divided into three weeks, or phases. The first phase is to gently wean you off of animal products and any other eating habits that add unnecessary load to your system and prepares you for detoxing in the next phase.

Day 1:

Because I already eat a vegan diet, I chose the vegan options for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  All the recipes were easy and delicious.  I felt a little headachy in the early afternoon, but drank more water and took a nap and it went away.  I enjoyed a long walk with my husband later in the day – the weather was beautiful and I was sure to take many deep breaths.  I did notice that I’ve swollen up like a giant, bipedal puffer fish.  My fingers and ankles feel tingly with water weight.  Using the dry brush on my skin before a relaxing bath, I hope that the increased circulation will help relieve the discomfort of bloating.

Day 2:

Today’s food seemed heavier than what I’m accustomed to eating.   Everything was delicious, especially the Greek Salad and sweet potato for lunch.  I was down a pound this morning. Hopefully this is a sign that the water weight is going away.  The supplements aren’t bad; I’ve read people complain about the Alkalinize supplement taste.  It’s much weaker than a shot of wheatgrass juice and it goes down very easy.  So far, there is nothing I find unpleasant.  I finished my second gallon of distilled water today and enjoyed a nice, long walk on an unseasonably warm January day.  So far, so good; though I am starting to think about how to handle the supplement and breakfast schedule during school days.  I will likely need to do a lot of preparation the night before so that meals are ready to go.

Day 3:

Today was awful.  They warn you in the program guide that days 3-5 can be the toughest.  I’m here to tell you, they aren’t joking.  I have a mild case of fibroids, which has made my monthly cycles increasingly painful.  I guess my body decided that Day 3 was the day to purge everything.  Really, they should call the Ultimate Reset “Exorcism in a Box” because my insides felt like something was trying to chew its way out of my abdomen.  At one point, it hurt so badly I was sure I was either going to puke or pass out.  Fortunately, I was able to stay on track, without the assistance of pain medication.  I took lots of breaks to rest and take it easy, and still managed to do all my cooking, eating and supplement taking.  I’m just really glad that today wasn’t a school day.  Hopefully tomorrow is better.

Day 4:

I had school today, so I was nervous about maintaining my eating and supplement schedule.  I was also worried about having a repeat of yesterday.  I’m happy to report that other than a few moments of discomfort, I felt pretty good today.  Yesterday was also the most kitchen-intensive day so far, so I was grateful for having a lighter day as far as cooking requirements.  I haven’t eaten a bad dish yet – everything is delicious, filling and even beautiful.  I am pretty tired today, so I’m going to bed early.

Day 5:

Today was easy.  I hate to keep comparing everything to Day 3, but the difference between that day, and every other day is stark.  So many of these recipes are so good, I can guarantee I will still be making them long after I am done with this round of the Ultimate Reset.  The weight spike I got just before I started the Reset has been halved, but I still have about 3-4 lbs. of typical, hormonal, water weight to shed. I can’t believe my first week is almost over!

Day 6:

Today was a lot like yesterday – pretty easy.  Even though I’m drinking a gallon of distilled water daily, and taking my daily hour long stroll, my weight is still hovering around 175.  On the bright side, most of that water weight I gained from PMS is gone, but I was much closer to 170 two weeks ago.  I admit to being frustrated about that.  I’ve developed a dull ache in my side and nothing seems to help.  I’ve tried taking a hot bath, dry brushing my skin to increase circulation, drinking water; the ache just sits there.  It’s not throbbing and its not acute; just enough to be uncomfortable and always noticeable.  Hopefully it goes away soon.

Day 7:

I’ve eaten the last of the produce and double recipes today.  The dull ache in my side is still there, annoying me.  I took another walk today and sucked up as much fresh air as I could.  I also went grocery shopping for next week.  It’s amazing how much food I’m buying for this!  I never buy this much food, but then again, I normally eat less than I’m directed to eat on this program.  Looking forward – the changes include adding a “Detox” supplement to my schedule and new recipes.  Phase 1 is in the books – onward to Phase 2!
